Hey everyone,

For this week’s post I’m just going to share some resources and websites. You have probably heard of some of them already, but perhaps there’s still some interesting stuff to check out.

Places you should go about game design

Lost Garden – game design articles and free art – Awesome blog!
Sirlin.net – Game design is not enough… – Maybe you know this one already, should read
Gamasutra – The art and business of making games – You should know this one already
GameDev.net – Sure you have heard of this one already!
Pulsipher Boardgame Design – but relevant to video / browser games as well!
Teach game design – A lot to learn here too, not sure it’s still being updated though
Theory and Principles of Game Design – not much on here, but still worth a look
Game Programming Wiki – Maybe you can do something with this, inactive since 2007
Theory by Flatfingers – Had this one bookmarked, at a glance it looks pretty decent
Vancouver Game Design – Another one bookmarked
Sloperama – Looks very old and not up-to-date, but still has a lot of information about game development
Amit’s Game Programming Information – Good documentation of interesting articles, but seems not to be online at the moment (?)

Browser based game design & development

Building Browsergames – Ever wanted to build a browsergame? – Currently not so active, but this is going to change soon, best blog for browser based game development
OpenBracket – Love this one because it’s about browser based gamedev experience
Triptych – Building games on the web. (And other cool stuff) – Interesting and active blog, just reading this since recently
Vilewar – This one just got to 5 posts… , I thought it was an interesting project and then the posts stopped. You probably can’t do much with this but I thought I’d add it to the list anyway
PHP Game Programming – Haven’t had a good in depth look at this one, but it looks useful, especially to beginners

PBBG Network

This network includes BuildingBrowsergames, BBGameZone and BBG Universe. If you want to make persistent browser games this is the place 2 be!

I try to tell people about them because it’s a place where developers can meet and share ideas and knowledge. Sadly, not many developers seem to find their way to the forums. As a result the forums can seem a bit inactive from time to time (like we had a week ago). This week there were some interesting conversations though, so sign up to BBGameZone!

Go to the PBBG Network

People you should follow on twitter

First of all you should follow the BBGameDesign Twitter List. Besides that you should follow:

@Copy112 – Fellow PBBG developer, we chat a lot, he’s a great help
@triptych – You should check out his blog (which I included in the list), he twitters interesting content
@tjgillis – From the OpenBracket blog, I wish he’d twitter more about PBBG related stuff
@andydbest – Another PBBG dev
@gdevnet – Obviously…
@gamasutra – The same here…
@AiGameDev – His name just sounds interesting
@GamePolitics - Interesting stuff, be up-to-date

Not game related but life wisdom… @shitmydadsays

Kohana – php framework

This week I got started with Kohana v3. I have never worked with Kohana before so its a new journey. I’ll probably say more on this in a future post.

The Official Kohana Website
